Functional Disability

The functional disability department gives support and service to people with functional disability. It may be people with intellectual disabilities, people with autism, or people with physical or psychological disabilities. The activity is regulated by the act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (LSS), the Social Services act (SoL) and the Health and Medical Services act (HSL).

Except from the municipality, you can get support and service from for example the social insurance office and the disability unit within the Västra Götaland region.

What kind of help are you entitled to?

All efforts within the functional disability department are means tested. An assistance handling officer always investigates your needs and makes a decision about what kind of help you will get. If your application is not granted, you have the right to be informed in writing about why, as well as instructions on how to appeal.

Appeal

If you are dissatisfied with the LSS handling officer’s decision, you have the right to appeal, at the latest three weeks after you have got the decision. The appeal is sent to the health care administration. If we do not find any reason to change the decision, the petition for a retrial is passed on to the county administrative court that will try your matter.

Professional secrecy

All staff within the functional disablement department has professional secrecy and may not give out information about you to unauthorised people. Of course, you have the right to read all documents that concern you.
