Municipal Archives
The municipal archives are final archives for municipal documents that are to be saved. The function of the archive is, amongst other things, to save important community information for present and future research. In the Archive Act it is determined that the archives of the authorities are part of the national cultural heritage and that the archives shall be saved, kept in order and cared for so that they provide for:
- The public’s right to take part of public documents
- The need for information for jurisdiction and administration
- The research needs
Minutes of meetings and old class lists
In the archive there are documents from today’s operations and old documents from as early as the earliest municipality formations in the 19th century. Examples of documents that can be found in the municipal archives are minutes of meetings, tallies, class lists, maps, plans and journals, such as school health journals. In the archives copies of leaving certificates from the compulsory school and upper secondary school can also be found. Please contact the archivist if you need a copy.
Publicity and Secrecy
Archive documents are accessible to everyone, in accordance with the publicity principle with the exceptions that are listed in the secrecy act. Some material, for example such that is about poverty care, childcare and sobriety care is protected by secrecy up to 70 years.
Protected from fire, dampness and unauthorised
The older material in the municipal archives is written by hand and only exists in one copy. Therefore, they must be kept protected from fire, dampness and trespassing from unauthorised. Thus, you may not bring such material home with you. However, it is OK to read documents in the archives and it is possible to make copies. In the script “Archive guidance for Partille municipality” by Beata Losman, you can read more about what can be found in our archives. This script can be found in the municipal archives.
